Recapping our September adventures, learning, and growth!

Welcome to October, TCC Families!

💛 September was a busy and exciting month at Training Children Childcare & Learning Center!

As we welcomed new faces into our classroom and reunited after summer break, our days quickly filled with new friendships, hands-on learning, and plenty of opportunities to explore. From discovering pumpkins and preparing for fall to beginning new projects with our Los Medanos College mentees, the children have been learning, growing, and making wonderful memories together.

This month also brought meaningful conversations, exciting discoveries, and opportunities to practice kindness, leadership, and respect. We started a new Bible learning experience, celebrated some special birthdays, and recognized a student who continues to shine in our classroom. Let's take a look back at all the wonderful things that made September special!

🍂 Welcome to Fall!

"Pumpkins, seasonal discoveries, and hands-on learning"

A Busy Classroom and a Fresh Start

September looked a little different at TCC this year! With two new mentees joining our classroom and everyone returning from summer break, our days were especially busy. Instead of taking on an overly complicated monthly theme, we decided to keep things simple and seasonal by welcoming the arrival of fall. This gave the children an opportunity to ease back into their classroom routines while exploring the changes and traditions that come with a new season.

Getting to Know Pumpkins

Pumpkins became the stars of our September activities as we prepared for our upcoming field trip to Smith Family Farm's pumpkin patch. The children explored the different parts of a pumpkin and learned about its life cycle, discovering how a tiny seed can grow into a large pumpkin. Through these conversations, they began to understand how plants grow and what they need to thrive.

Learning Through Real-Life Experiences

Of course, learning about pumpkins is even more exciting when little hands get involved! The children participated in hands-on activities using real pumpkins, giving them opportunities to observe, explore, and learn through their senses. These experiences encouraged curiosity and helped bring classroom lessons to life. Instead of simply hearing about pumpkins, the children had opportunities to investigate them up close!

Fall Fun with Bingo!

We also added some seasonal fun to our learning with fall bingo! Games like these help children practice observation, recognize pictures and seasonal items, and develop listening and turn-taking skills. Most importantly, they allow children to learn while having fun together. Our fall activities helped us welcome the new season, reconnect as a classroom family, and build excitement for our pumpkin patch adventure!

🎓 LMC Mentee Updates

"New partnerships, big ideas, and exciting discoveries"

Growing Together with Los Medanos College

We are excited to continue our partnership with Los Medanos College (LMC) this semester! TCC is hosting two mentees, Miss Emilia and Miss Zara, who are working alongside our children to develop engaging learning projects based on their interests. This partnership gives our children opportunities to explore new ideas while allowing our mentees to gain valuable experience working with young learners.

Miss Emilia's Superhero Project

Miss Emilia is working with the children on a superhero project, a topic they selected together! During the first few weeks, she encouraged the children to share their interests, participate in small-group discussions, and watch videos related to ideas that caught their attention. The children also had a chance to vote on their preferred project topic, giving them a voice in deciding what they wanted to learn.

This approach makes learning especially meaningful because the children are active participants in the process. By helping choose their project, they can develop decision-making skills, practice expressing their thoughts, and learn to listen to the ideas of their classmates. We look forward to seeing how their superhero project develops and what creative ideas they bring to life!

Miss Zara's Farm Animal Adventure

Miss Zara invited the children to share topics they were curious about, and after considering several ideas, they chose farm animals and how to care for them! Over the next two months, Miss Zara will guide the children through activities that introduce different farm animals, where they live, what they eat, and what they need to stay healthy and safe.

This project offers plenty of opportunities for discovery. As the children learn about farm animals, they can begin to understand the importance of caring for living things and recognizing their needs. They will also have opportunities to ask questions, share observations, and connect new information to what they already know about animals and the world around them.

Learning Through Children's Interests

Both projects reflect the value of allowing children's questions and interests to help guide their learning. Whether they're imagining themselves as superheroes or discovering how to care for farm animals, our children are learning that their ideas matter. We are excited to watch these projects grow throughout the semester and are grateful to Miss Emilia and Miss Zara for bringing their creativity, enthusiasm, and fresh perspectives to TCC!

📖 TCC Bible Adventures

"Big questions, meaningful stories, and lessons for life"

Where the Questions Began

Last month, something wonderful happened in our classroom: the children began asking questions about people in the Bible! Some of our children had never heard Bible stories before, while others were eager to learn more. Their curiosity opened the door to meaningful conversations, and we began exploring the story of Creation, starting at the very beginning.

As the children listened and shared their thoughts, their questions reminded us how naturally young learners seek to understand the world around them. One question often led to another, creating opportunities for discussion, reflection, and discovery. What began as simple curiosity soon inspired a new learning experience at TCC!

Introducing the TCC Bible Experience

Inspired by the children's enthusiasm, we introduced the TCC Bible Experience, a mini project in which children and staff explore a Bible story each month and connect its lessons to everyday life. Rather than simply telling stories, we want to encourage children to think about what they hear, ask questions, and consider how the lessons can help them understand themselves and others.

Through age-appropriate conversations, we can explore important values such as kindness, responsibility, obedience, compassion, and making thoughtful choices. These discussions provide opportunities for children to express their ideas and begin recognizing how stories can teach us about the way we treat one another.

Our First Stories: Creation, Adam and Eve, and Cain and Abel

So far, our Bible adventures have taken us through three foundational stories: Creation, Adam and Eve, and Cain and Abel. We began by exploring the story of how God created the world, then continued with Adam and Eve and their experience in the Garden of Eden. We also learned about Cain and Abel, opening the door to conversations about choices, feelings, and how our actions affect others.

Each story offers different opportunities for learning and reflection. As we explore them together, we encourage the children to listen, ask questions, and think about what the stories might teach us about life today. Their curiosity and willingness to participate have made this new experience especially exciting!

Growing in Knowledge, Character, and Faith

At TCC, we believe learning is about more than academic skills. It is also about nurturing character, encouraging thoughtful questions, and helping children develop a sense of responsibility toward others. The TCC Bible Experience gives us another way to support that growth while making room for meaningful conversations.

We look forward to continuing this journey with our children each month as we discover more Bible stories and the lessons they hold. Who knows what questions and exciting conversations our next Bible adventure will bring? We can't wait to find out!
