TCC NEWSLETTER - RECAPPING OCTOBER 2024

Updated: Nov 7

This month's Newsletter is dedicated to highlighting the events of October 2024 at TCC, showcasing our successes, achievements, field trips, and enjoyable moments!

Ancient History and Today: Discovering Ancient Egypt

This month, we embarked on an incredible journey back in time with the start of our Ancient History and Today unit! October was all about Ancient Egypt—one of the most fascinating civilizations in history. The children were captivated as we explored what life was like along the Nile River thousands of years ago.

We started by looking at Egypt’s most iconic structures: the pyramids. The kids were thrilled to learn that these weren’t just big, mysterious buildings—they were actually tombs for ancient pharaohs! They learned about the incredible effort that went into building these monuments, from the architectural planning to the hard work of the laborers. We even talked about the myths of hidden treasure and booby traps inside the pyramids!

Next, we dived into hieroglyphics, the ancient Egyptian writing system. Each child had a chance to practice writing their own name in hieroglyphs, turning letters into beautiful symbols. The kids were amazed by how different it looked from our alphabet and enjoyed “translating” messages for each other. As a craft activity, we even made "papyrus paper" to give the children a hands-on sense of the materials the Egyptians used long ago.

Finally, we wrapped up our study with a lesson on mummification. The children were so intrigued to learn how Egyptians preserved their deceased, from removing organs to wrapping the body in cloth. We ended with a Halloween twist by making “mummy dogs” (hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll “bandages”). It was a memorable way to tie together our history lesson with some seasonal fun!

October Birthday Shout Outs!

October was full of celebrations for some of our TCC family! We wished a very happy birthday to Mrs. Cynthia (10/6), Jorden (10/9), Mr. CT (10/19), Venayah (10/26), and Jamar (10/30). We hope each of you had a fantastic day filled with lots of love and fun!

A Day at Smith Family Farm

One of October’s biggest highlights was our field trip to Smith Family Farm! It was a day full of adventure, fresh air, and learning outside the classroom. We were so grateful to have some fantastic parent volunteers join us. Mrs. Cynthia and her family, Mrs. Tiana, and Mr. Daniel helped make the trip even more enjoyable by lending a hand and sharing the fun with us!

As soon as we arrived, the children’s eyes lit up at the sight of the farm animals. They got up close with cows, goats, chickens, and even a rooster that strutted around proudly! Many of the kids had never seen farm animals this close before, so it was a wonderful chance to learn about these animals' lives and needs. Our guide shared fun facts, like how cows chew their cud and how chickens lay eggs.

Afterward, we joined in on a hoedown, where the children danced and clapped along to lively music. It was a great opportunity to introduce them to a traditional country dance, and everyone, including the parents, had a fantastic time. The excitement didn’t stop there—each child got to choose their very own pumpkin to take home. Once back at TCC, they got creative by painting their pumpkins with their favorite colors and designs, proudly displaying their artwork.

Harvest Party Extravaganza

The Harvest Party was an unforgettable celebration, with fantastic costumes, delicious treats, and so much fun! The children came dressed as their favorite characters, from Disney princesses like Elsa to spooky werewolves and superheroes. It was wonderful to see their personalities shine through their creative costumes, and they all had a blast showing off their outfits to their friends.

We kicked off the festivities by watching the animated movie Mummies, which kept everyone on the edge of their seats with its adventure and humor. The kids giggled and gasped along with the characters, making it a perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit.

After the movie, it was time for snacks! We served up some “mummy dogs,” which were a hit with everyone. These tasty treats—hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll “bandages”—were not only delicious but also a fun nod to our recent studies on mummification. To top it off, we had popcorn covered in colorful cereal, creating a sweet and crunchy treat the kids couldn’t get enough of. Thank you to all the families who contributed to this memorable celebration—it was a wonderful way to wrap up October!

Hygiene Bags: Staying Fresh All Day

At Back-to-School Night, Mrs. Vicki introduced an important topic on hygiene, sharing why it’s essential for our school-age kids to have a hygiene routine. After a full day of learning and playing, it’s natural for kids to feel a bit tired and worn out. That’s why Mrs. Vicki encouraged each family to create a refresh bag for their child, filled with essentials to help them feel fresh and confident.

The “refresh bag” includes items like wipes, deodorant, toothpaste, a toothbrush, and a T-shirt—simple tools to help kids take care of themselves throughout the day. Mrs. Vicki emphasized that building these healthy habits early helps kids develop lifelong routines, giving them a sense of independence and pride in their self-care.

We’re so grateful for the families who’ve already brought in these bags, and we encourage everyone else to join in if they haven’t yet. If you have any questions about the items or need tips on assembling your child’s bag, feel free to reach out!

Just Dance Afternoons

Afternoons at TCC have turned into dance parties thanks to our beloved Just Dance sessions! The children eagerly look forward to these moments, where they get to let loose, have fun, and show off their dance moves. With the game’s interactive routines and lively music, each dance session becomes a mini workout disguised as pure fun.

What makes these sessions even better is how the children learn to work together, encouraging each other to follow along and try new moves. Many have developed favorite songs and routines, creating a friendly competition to see who can hit the highest score. These afternoons bring such joy and laughter to our days, and they’ve become a wonderful way for the children to connect with each other.

Watching them dance their hearts out has been a highlight of our month. From solo dances to group routines, our TCC dancers show off their talents and enthusiasm daily. It’s a fantastic way to build confidence, coordination, and friendships!

October Student of the Month: Reniyah Stanford

We’re thrilled to recognize Reniyah Stanford as our October Student of the Month! Reniyah has been an outstanding example of kindness, dedication, and helpfulness. Every morning, she greets her classmates with a smile and is one of the first to lend a hand, whether it’s helping a friend with their backpack or assisting the teachers with setting up activities.

Reniyah’s enthusiasm doesn’t end in the morning. Throughout the day, she’s constantly looking for ways to make a positive impact. From helping her friends with their work to tidying up the classroom, she’s a true role model. The staff appreciates her polite and respectful attitude, and her classmates love her friendly and warm personality.

Reniyah has shown us that being a great student isn’t just about learning—it’s also about lifting others up and being a positive force in our TCC family. We’re so proud of her and grateful to have her in our class. Congratulations, Reniyah—you truly deserve this honor!
