🌱 Growing Together: Staff Development Workshop
"Strengthening Our Practice Through Learning

At TCC, we believe that great teaching begins with continuous learning, and our February Staff Development Workshop was a beautiful example of that commitment. We were honored to welcome Deanna Carmona from First 5 Contra Costa, who guided our team through the updated CLASS Tool. This training helped our teachers better understand how to strengthen classroom interactions, support emotional development, and create even more meaningful learning experiences for our students.
The workshop also featured La Krisha Dillard from VistaBILITY, a Health Consultant at the Lynn Center, who led an insightful session on inclusion and trauma-informed care. Her presentation encouraged us to see each child through a compassionate and informed lens, reminding us that every behavior tells a story and every child deserves understanding and support.

Creating Classrooms Where Every Child Thrives
Together, these sessions reinforced the importance of building environments where all children feel safe, valued, and included. Our staff engaged in thoughtful discussions, shared experiences, and reflected on ways to implement these practices in their daily routines. It was not just a training—it was a moment of alignment and growth as a team.
We are excited to bring these new insights into our classrooms, ensuring that every child at TCC continues to learn and grow in a nurturing and supportive space.
🎶Black History Month🎨
Celebrating History & Culture
Exploring the Sounds of History

This February, our Black History Month celebration came alive through the powerful expressions of art and music in African American culture. Students dove into the rich history of musical genres such as Blues, Gospel, and Jazz. They explored where these sounds came from, the instruments used, and the stories they tell—discovering how music can express both struggle and joy.
A standout moment was learning about the legendary Louis Armstrong. His life and music inspired our students in a meaningful way, leading to a fun and creative trumpet art activity. As students designed their own “trumpets,” their imaginations soared. One student beautifully shared, “When I decorated my trumpet, I could almost hear the music in my head!” Moments like these remind us how powerful creative learning can be.
Art That Tells a Story

Our journey continued into the world of visual art, where students explored influential artists of the Harlem Renaissance, including Alma Thomas and Jacob Lawrence. Through their work, children discovered how color, shape, and storytelling can come together to communicate powerful messages. These lessons sparked thoughtful conversations and encouraged students to express their own stories through art.

We concluded the month with a joyful Black History Month Potluck, where families and staff gathered to celebrate culture, creativity, and community. The laughter, food, and shared experiences made it a truly unforgettable event. Thank you to all the families who participated and helped make this celebration so meaningful!
